Show of hands: who here has been to a wedding? Most of us, right? What are the normal moments where people tear up? First look with the bride and Dad, first look with the bride and groom, when the bride is coming down the aisle and the groom sees her, their first dance, and Dad’s […]
When Jennifer first reached out to me about doing a an extended family session with 3 generations and 3 families, I was so excited! Families who joyfully love each other and want to remember the chapter of their lives that they’re in right now are my absolute favorite! She let me know that they’d love […]
When I was 9 years old, I decided that when I grew up, I was going to be a marine biologist and work with dolphins! Where that idea came from, I have no idea. It was either from a book, or (more likely) watching “The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley: The Case of the Sea […]
25th Anniversary Vow Renewal | Kim + Bill | Frisco, Texas
What’s the longest marriage you’ve encountered personally?
At a lot of weddings, they have an Anniversary Dance, which is always a lot of fun! All the married couples dance, and the DJ has a countdown (count up?) for them to sit down if they’ve been married for 5 years, 10 years, etc., until there’s only 1 couple left standing! It’s usually the bride or groom’s grandparents, it makes everyone smile, and it’s such a sweet testament to their lifetime of love and devotion!
In this day and age, we’re often surprised or shocked when we come across a couple that’s been married for what we consider a “long time.” I’m blessed that my parents have been married for 34 years, and they still hold hands and dance together (and embarrass their 4 kids) when they’re at a music festival!
My maternal grandparents were married for 65 years, until my Granddad passed last July, and they still went square dancing together until their bodies couldn’t keep up with their hearts! Cutest thing you’ve ever seen!!
Kim and Bill just passed their 25th wedding anniversary, and they decided to celebrate by renewing their vows at JR Newman Park! Thanks to COVID-19, they couldn’t have a big celebration like their decades of love deserve, but they were surrounded by their 2 sons, their girlfriends, their pastor and his wife, and a special family from their church. They wrote their own vows, and they exchanged their wedding rings for the second time – so sweet!
A lot of times, us “younguns” think people who are old enough to have been married for 25 years are staid and sober. That is NOT how I would describe Kim and Bill! They decided to round out their special ceremony with a trip to the kids’ splash pad at the park! My cheeks were hurting from laughing so hard as they frolicked and splashed in the water! (Pretty sure the other kids that were at the splash pad thought they were crazy! And yes, I did mean to say “other kids!”)
Kim & Bill, it was awesome to see what a good example you’ve set for Will and Royal – one of love, zest, and laughter! It was so fantastic spending time with y’all and being included on such a special moment in your lives! I can only hope that when my husband and I celebrate our 25th anniversary, we’ll still be as good of friends and love each other as much as you two do!
